Keep The Children Healthy as They Return Back to School

As our children return to school this fall, we need to be diligent in their health needs so they can perform and behave brilliantly, and do not miss school due to sickness. There are four major points I emphasize with my children and with my clients.

  • Eating a balanced diet at least 4 days a week is imperative. This diet should be low in grains (wheat, rice, barley, millet, oats and spelt), reduced amounts of sugar, and processed foods, which include chips, juices, candy, and fast food items, and elimination of all soft drinks. I recommend salads, vegetables, low fat animal protein, beans, fruits and nuts.
  • I also highly recommend a vegetarian digestive enzyme which provides a full spectrum of digestive enzymes that act on all of the main food components (protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber) A digestive enzyme( taken before meals ) supports complete digestion of foods. This eliminates the possible food sensitivities and with complete digestion of all food groups, undigested food does not leak into the blood stream. By doing this you will allow your immune system to perform its most important function, which is to protect you against viruses, bacteria, molds and fungus. This will ensure fewer missed school days. I also recommend a good multi mineral vitamin supplement. I personally routinely recommend a multi-vitamin mineral supplement in an enzyme form to effectively and optimally support the full delivery and utilization of these nutrients. In addition, I also recommend a probiotic, which includes lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus plantarum, bifidobacterium bifidum and lactobacillus salivarious. A good probiotic can help ensure a healthy gut which protects the body from toxic byproducts, bacteria, parasites and other pathogens, as well as provide immune support.
  • I also recommend an exercise program. More than half the children in American are obese. Adhering to a diet is critical but so is exercise. Exercising at least 4 days a week is my recommendation. It is not difficult to find a sport, or exercise routine that is enjoyable for the them and/or the whole family. Shooting baskets, or playing tennis, or running as well as swimming are just some of the few sports that are available. Exercise is essential for healthy muscles and bones, good circulation and keeping our weight in balance.
  • Two other factors for healthy children is adequate sleep, and meditation. Some children need more sleep than others. Most parents know their particular child and their capacity for reduced sleep. Sleep is rejuvenating, restorative, and energizing. Meditation for children, involving quiet time for even 5 minutes, allows them sufficient time to breathe, release the day and intentionally prepare with some positive thoughts and affirmations the new day ahead of them.
