MMR: Pressure mounts on the parents

Ever since legal aid was withdrawn from the families fighting for compensation after their children suffered permanent damage following the MMR jab, they have become sitting ducks for the manufacturers of the vaccine.


Many families have stopped their action after receiving letters from representatives of Merck, one of the vaccine manufacturers, which warned of substantial legal costs if they persisted.


Merck said it would not ask for the families to pay for its legal costs incurred thus far if they dropped their actions.


* Our planned evening conference with Dr Andrew Wakefield has been postponed to a later date. Dr Wakefield is due to put his case to the General Medical Council at about the time we were planning to hold the public talk, and he has been advised it may prejudice his chances.
