Steroids can have a success story

I was so very sad to read of Aaron’s terrible death in Case Study (WDDTY vol 13 no 2), but very concerned that anyone prescribed prednisolone should feel threatened. At 61, I became seriously ill with polymyalgia rheumatica and, appallingly, my treatment was steroids.

But to my amazement, I was able to get out of bed the following morning and take a shower. I will be 75 next month and still take 7.5 mg of prednisolone daily; at times I increase the dose to 15 mg but, so far, I have had no side-effects. I do, however, take supplements to help my immune system. – Mrs B Turner, Sevenoaks
