Karol Sikora, professor of oncology at London’s Hammersmith Hospital Royal Postgraduate Medical School is calling for a comprehensive review of Britain’s cancer services.
Many of the women who have set up the Radiotherapy Action Group Exposure, after suffering catastrophic arm injuries caused by radiation therapy for breast cancer, probably didn’t need the treatment anyway, says the professor.
Evidence suggests the damage was caused by faulty technique, rather than individual sensitivity to radiation, he said.
