ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)

This is a degenerative disease that weakens and eventually destroys the motor neurons, progressively damaging connections between the brain and spinal cord. One reader, diagnosed with the disease, says one of the most annoying symptoms (apart from the inability to walk or talk) is excess saliva production. Does anyone know of a natural remedy that won’t affect the liver or kidneys like conventional drugs? According to one reader, ALS would be ameliorated with help from taurine (magnesium taurate is a good form). Coenzyme Q-10 is also an amazingly effective treatment, though you may have to take it in a more powerful dosage (which can be quite expensive). Nuts (especially walnuts and almonds) also contain this enzyme. Creatine and alpha lipoic acid are other supplements you may want to consider; more information is available at Life Extension Foundation (lef.org). To keep your brain activated, work on puzzles or other thought problems. And make sure you avoid any excitotoxic additives, like aspartame and MSG (found in a ton of different soups, among other foods). One woman suggests the cell salt Nat. Mur. The salt is harmless and can be taken every few minutes if necessary (four pilules dissolved in the mouth). A standard dose would be four pilules taken four times daily, though more often is initially necessary. This may need to be done over a two-month period.
