Rely on the clinical history for diagnosis. Although diseases such as multiple sclerosis have a high detection rate on MRI, most diagnoses are arrived at clinically (N Engl J Med, 1993; 328: 708-16).
* Consider imaging techniques that do not require the use of iodinated contrast media (Eur Radiol, 1999; 9: 1602-13), or opt for a scan without a contrast agent, which can still provide valuable information.
