Digoxin doesn’t help against heart failure

Digoxin, the heart drug derived from digitalis, has now been comprehensively shown to be ineffective in heart failure, according to a study of nearly 7000 patients.


What’s worse, higher rates of death were found in women who were taking the drug than in those taking no drug at all (N Engl J Med, 2002; 347: 1403-11).
