NEWS:BLOCKING NATURAL ELIMINATION

Diarrhea is the body’s violent way of ridding itself of poisons or viruses. Unpleasant as it can be, it is a natural reaction and so need not be stopped.

Those who want some outside assistance will find plenty of remedies on offer at the local pharmacy. Anti diarrhea drugs range from the opiates, anti infectives to the anti spasmotics, and treatment names include codeine phosphate, Lomotil, Collic Brown’s mixture, Imodium, Colofec, Copermin and Mintec.

The anti spasmotics can cause dry mouth, blurred vision and dizziness, while the opiates can, naturally enough, cause drowsiness, and a blockage of the bowel. While they can bring some instant relief, these treatments can also prolong the infection and delay the absorption of fluids and salts.

These drugs should never be given to children who instead should have plenty of pure water to prevent dehydration or to people suffering from glaucoma.

Acute or chronic attacks should not be treated with anti spasmodic remedies.
