America’s “War on Cancer” is not going well. A new report from the National Cancer Advisory Board, with the less triumphal title of Cancer at a Crossroads, notes that rates of cancer have increased 18 per cent since 1971, and that the mortality rate


On a brighter note, it reports a rise in survival rates among those who can afford it. Over 38 million people in the US have no health insurance, while a further 80 million do not have adequate cover to pay for cancer care.
