Man reading about change and growth

365 Prescriptions for the Soul – Prescription # 190: You Haven’t Changed a Bit

You meet someone you haven’t seen in years and she says, “You haven’t changed a bit.” Is that a compliment or a criticism? It depends what she is referring to.

If you fail to encourage change and growth in your life, perhaps you are afraid and prefer to remain in risk-free situations. The date changes every day, and so should you. We all need to keep growing to make our lives meaningful and to stimulate our bodies with the will to live.

Someone who is living an unchanged life is not communicating a will to live but a boredom that will lead to illness. But those who remain open to new ideas and experiences are sending “live messages” to their body and spirit.

All athletes know you need to be flexible to not injure yourself. So stretch your limits and reach out for what you were once afraid to attempt. Enlarge yourself and change your goals so that when you return for your fiftieth reunion, no one will tell you that you haven’t changed a bit.
