Parasites and irritable bowel disease (IBD):

Last week, one reader wanted to know more about porcine parasites and their effectiveness in treating IBD. While we haven’t received any information on these specific parasites, there were a few suggestions on ways to help with chronic gut problems. If the problem is related to candida, it is important to eliminate sugar from the diet and follow an anti-candida diet (no cheese, mushrooms, fermented foods etc). One reader mentions a probiotic product, known as Primal Defense, that may be worthwhile looking into. This supplement contains homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs), a range of “good” bacteria that occur in the soil. These HSOs restore the balance of the intestinal flora and have been found to improve symptoms of inflammatory bowel disorders.
