Good news for postmenopausal women who might be wondering how to help themselves after the recent scares about HRT therapy.
The answer is simple, researchers have found – just do some brisk walking for two-and-a-half hours a week, and you’ll reduce your risks of cardiovascular disease by 30 per cent.
As that equates to just 20 minutes of walking every day, it should be an achievable target for most.
The results, from the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study, were based on a survey of 73,743 postmenopausal women aged from 50 to 79 (N Engl J Med, 2002; 347: 716-25).
