LETTERS:SAVING ANIMALS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ‘SAVING FACE’

As I live in Japan, foot and mouth hardly affects me, but it bothered me that nothing I read in the press of the government’s response to the outbreak, or the public and press response to what was happening, seemed to make sense. For me, it appeared


I wrote to Animal Aid, the largest animal rights group in England. I’m neither a vegetarian nor an animal lover, but thought that such a group might be prepared to take some action to advertise their sincerity. I suggested they break the law. They said they were doing enough and didn’t want to go any further.


Your recent feature on FMD (WDDTY vol 12 no 1) did make sense to me. If our governments and civil servants no longer think about anything other than ‘saving face’, if those who are supposed to care don’t and if activists can’t act, haven’t we reached a sorry impasse? Stephen Harding, via e-mail……
