UPDATES:PASS THE SALT SOMETIMES

We all know that too much salt is bad for you but too little can be just as harmful.

Researchers who tested a group of men with high blood pressure found that those with the lowest levels of sodium in their urine suffered the greatest number of heart problems over a four year period.

Strangely, this seeming paradox was noted only in men; women with the lowest levels of salt suffered the least number of heart problems.

The study was not able to determine if the sodium levels were a cause or effect of heart disease (Hypertension, 1995; 25: 1153-4).

For more information on the heart, see the WDDTY Guide to the Heart, and WDDTY vol 3, no 1, vol 5, no 11, and vol 7 no 7.
