While many readers who wrote in about their experiences with breast cysts linked it to menopause, it is possible that the condition could be related to an endocrine-related illness. One reader found out that recurring breast cysts was a symptom of hypothyroidism, a condition with which she was recently diagnosed, but the two were never linked. Another reader says breast cysts could be due to overstimulation of the breast tissue by excess oestrogen or by a substance that mimics this effect, such as the methyl xanthines in tea, coffee and chocolate. Cutting out these substances could bring rapid improvement.
